What is a Sales Funnel?

What is a Sales Funnel and How to Build a Killer Sales Funnel?

If you know digital marketing even a little, you must have heard about sales funnel. The concept of a sales funnel is not new. Usually, people find it odd, but this single concept has taken many businesses from literally no-where to a point where they make multi-million dollars in a year. In fact, there are people who have built their careers around this single concept.

What a Sales Funnel is?

Let me make it simpler for you; a sales funnel is just like a real-world funnel – a wider end at one side, and a narrow one at the other. It is mostly a visualization to understand the buying process of your prospects.

Sales funnel process example

In a real-world funnel, you pour something from the top end, it moves down filtering towards a definite end. A sales funnel has a similar pattern. A lot of visitors – may be in thousands – enter your sales funnel, but unlike the real-world funnel, not all visitors will reach the other hand.

In the marketing world, a sales funnel is known as a multi-layer process that converts your prospective visitors into customers. An important part of a sales funnel is a series of email warming sequences that include a wide range of things from personalized stories to tutorials, and product suggestions to reminders of webinars.

To be honest, most prospects will not buy anything from you as soon as they land on your website. They would need to know you before they can pull out their credit cards to purchase from you. And it takes time. Thus, a sales funnel is a process in which different relationship building processes help you in convincing your potential buyers.

Now, an important question is how to build a killer sales funnel. Let’s have a look into it.

How to Make a Killer Sales Funnel?

Although, making a sales funnel is a thoughtful method and requires a lot of planning, research, and testing, here are five steps that are required to make it a killer one. Let’s discuss them one by one:

A Brilliant Landing Page:

A landing page is a first proper introduction of your product/service to your customers. It is a web-page that allows you to collect the visitor’s information through a lead-capture.

To build a brilliant landing page, you need to offer your visitors something valuable that they can download from there in exchange for their contact information which is usually an email address.

A good leading page helps you in targeting your audience and converting their large percentage into leads.

Front-End Offer:

Front-End Offer Example

At this step of your sales funnel, you offer your main product to the visitors. This is a crucial step. Set your front-end offer in a way that it increases the desire of your product that you actually want to sell them.
As a best practice, usually, a front-end offer has a lower price. It is because, for a lower-price offer, people usually don’t think too much and buy from you, and from there you can take them to your back-end product to sell them that as well.

Up-sell Offer:

This is another important part of a sales funnel. It is a technique that you can use to increase your profit margins.

After selling your main product, offer a one-time opportunity to your customers. This offer will be only for those who have already bought your front-end product.

This up-sell offer is anything from a discount on a special price for a limited time to an upgrade. Read my blog post on how to upsell more products to get a better understanding of this concept.

Downsize Offer:

Just like an up-sell, you can offer a downsize offer to your customers as well. Some people think that offering a downsize is a failure. No, it’s not. In fact, it is a relief for your customers.

Maybe a visitor is interested in your product but doesn’t have funds. In such a case, you can offer a cheaper alternative to your product. Similarly, if you are offering a high-ticket product, many people don’t want to buy it right away. They may like to use it for some time to get an idea of the product. In this case, you can offer them limited-time access to the product.

Remain in Touch with Prospects:

Last but not the least – remain in touch with your prospects. An email-sequence is the best way to live in contact with your leads and build a relationship with them. It enables you to convince them and make them buy your product.

Using the power of emails, you can also increase your profit by sending them offers related to their interest in the future as well.

In this article, I have discussed all the steps from a general perspective. Building a killing sales funnel largely depends on the business you are in. No matter if you are an online business or an offline, a sales funnel will always help you boost your business online.
